Machine translation is not accurate and can give some unexpected results, sometime with hilarious consequences. Here are some entertaining examples of machine translation gone wrong .

"Jim is a Vietnam vet" became "Jim is a veterinarian from Vietnam"

"We have a zero-tolerance policy for sexual harassment" became "We hold the highest standards for sexual harassment."

"Never jump straight out of a window; lower yourself on to cushions etc." became "Never jump out of a window straight. Put yourself on a donkey and come down." (The Urdu words for cushion and donkey are very similar).

So the motto is - never rely on machine translation for texts that other people will need to understand or that will be published. Only human translation can produce an accurate rendition.
