Adelphi Translations have been working with Amnesty International typesetting materials for a campaign they are currently running on behalf of the Romani communities in Slovakia, Hungary and Romania.
Slovak is the language and Slovakian is the nationality but they are often confused with one another.
As well as Slovak other languages we have typeset for Amnesty International are: Kurdish Sorani, Tamil, Cambodian, Albanian, Malay, Hungarian, Ukrainian, Sinhalese, Russian, Portuguese, Georgian, Kinyarwanda, Swahili, Hindi, Bengali and Greek.
When typesetting Slovak a font has to be used that has the special characters such as č, dž, š, ž, ň etc. Slovak text also expands around 15% more than the English source so when typesetting Slovak it could cause problems if this has not been taken into account in the original design.

The U.S. State Department in 2010 reported:
- “The government generally respected the human rights of its citizens; however, there were problems in some areas. Notable human rights problems included some continuing reports of police mistreatment of Romani suspects and lengthy pretrial detention; restrictions on freedom of religion; concerns about the integrity of the judiciary, corruption in national government, local government, and government health services; violence against women and children; trafficking in women and children; and societal discrimination and violence against Roma and other minorities.”
Adelphi Translations is a full service translation agency producing translations, typesetting, websites, voice overs and subtitles in any language.
