The Gujarātī script was adapted from the Devanāgarī script to write the Gujarātī language. It is spoken by over 46 million people in the Indian state of Gujarat.
Gujarati is one of the Indian languages that still have problem fonts, which can mean that typesetting Gujarati can be tricky. Many Gujarati fonts are not standardized and are incompatible with each other and many still do not work in professional applications, such as Adobe Indesign. It is therefore very important when translating Gujarati to select a font that is compatible with the application which will be used to typeset the documents. This is not as simple as it seems as many translators are used to using their own fonts as they have learned the keyboard layout for that particular font.
